Islam Nusantara: Journal for the Study of History and Culture constitutes a peer-reviewed academic publication dedicated to the advancement of scholarly discourse concerning the historical, cultural, and intellectual dimensions of Islam within the Nusantara region, with particular emphasis on its dynamic interactions with local traditions and global Islamic thought. The journal prioritizes empirically research that employs novel primary sources, as well as theoretically sophisticated contributions that challenge established paradigms in the field.
The journal welcomes submissions that address, but are not limited to, the following thematic areas:
- Historical Development of Islam in Nusantara: Comprehensive examinations of the islamisation processes, the evolution of religious institutions, and their socio-political roles across various historical epochs, from the early maritime trade networks to the colonial and post-colonial periods.
- Cultural and Intellectual Traditions: Critical studies of Islamic manuscripts, literary traditions, architectural heritage, legal thought (fiqh), theological discourse (kalam), and mystical practices (tasawwuf) as they have developed within distinctive Nusantara contexts.
