The Islam Nusantara Journal for the Study of Islamic History and Culture upholds a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding plagiarism in any form. Plagiarism is defined as “the use or close imitation of the language, ideas, or expressions of another author and the representation of them as one’s own original work”, whether in part or in whole, without proper acknowledgment.
All manuscripts submitted for publication must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere. Any verbatim text from other sources must be:
- Clearly distinguished from the author’s own writing (e.g., through block quotations or indentation),
- Placed within quotation marks if brief,
- Properly cited with full reference.
Any use of external content (textual or visual) that exceeds the standard threshold of fair use must be accompanied by explicit permission from the copyright holder, where applicable, and should always be properly attributed to the original source.
All submitted manuscripts will be screened using Turnitin or equivalent plagiarism detection software. The editorial board will take the following actions based on the similarity index result:
1. Similarity Index above 40%
- The manuscript will be automatically rejected due to excessive similarity and potential plagiarism.
- No resubmission will be accepted.
2. Similarity Index between 20–40%
- The manuscript will be returned to the author(s) for substantial revision.
- The author(s) must add accurate citations for all instances of similarity and perform proper paraphrasing, even where citations were initially provided.
3. Similarity Index below 20%
- The manuscript may be accepted with minor revisions, or returned for improvement if citation accuracy needs to be enhanced.
In cases (2) and (3), authors are required to:
- Carefully revise the manuscript, addressing all flagged similarities,
- Provide correct and complete references,
- Submit a revised version along with a new Turnitin report showing a similarity index below 20%.
This policy is intended to ensure the academic integrity of all published work, and to maintain the journal’s commitment to original scholarship and rigorous peer review within the field of Islamic history and cultural studies in the Nusantara region and beyond.
