Retraction Policy

To maintain the integrity and credibility of the scholarly record, the Islam Nusantara Journal for the Study of Islamic History and Culture adopts the following policy on retraction, withdrawal, correction, and removal of articles. These actions are taken seriously and only in exceptional circumstances, following best practices, including the COPE Retraction Guidelines.

Retraction

Articles may be retracted if:

  • Major errors or scientific misconduct (e.g., data fabrication) invalidate the findings.
  • Redundant publication without proper citation or permission is discovered.
  • Ethical violations such as plagiarism or authorship disputes are identified.

The retraction process involves:

  • Editorial investigation (following COPE flowcharts),
  • Author response and Ethics Advisory input,
  • Final decision and formal retraction notice published both online and in print.

If authors hold copyright, they may request retraction post-publication, but COPE guidelines still apply.

Withdrawal

Manuscripts may be withdrawn only before the signed publication declaration is submitted. Authors must send a formal withdrawal request via email during the submission or review stage.

Corrections

Corrections may be issued for:

  • Minor but significant errors (data, interpretations, author list),
  • Misleading content due to honest mistakes.

Types of corrections:

  • Erratum: Publisher’s production error.
  • Corrigendum: Author’s factual or authorship error.
  • Addendum: Updates or clarifications to expand the work.

Final decisions rest with the Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with reviewers or the Editorial Board where necessary.

Removal

In rare cases, a published article may be removed due to legal issues, defamation, or health risks. The metadata will remain with a note explaining the removal.

Replacement

If an article poses a significant risk, authors may retract and republish a corrected version. The retraction notice will link to the revised article with a documented history.
